A field experiment was conducted during rabi, 2013 in farmer’s fields of P.T.M. mandal, Chittoor district, Andhra Pradesh consisted of combinations of four planting dates (first fortnight of October, second fortnight of October, first fortnight of November and second fortnight of November) and three curing methods (open rack sun curing, 25 per cent ventilated polyhouse curing and 50 percent polyhouse curing) in Factorial RBD with three replications. The results indicated that planting of oriental tobacco during second fortnight of October resulted in better leaf quality with lower amount of nicotine (0.90%), higher total sugars content (19.52%) and potassium content (1.04%) and more uptake of nutrients. Curing under 25 percent polyhouse curing method resulted in lowest nicotine content (0.99%), higher total sugars content (19.55%), potassium content (0.88%) and better leaf colour. Thus, the findings of present investigation indicated that planting of oriental tobacco during second fortnight of October and curing under 25 per cent ventilated polyhouse method helps to obtain higher yield with better quality of leaf.
