Abstract:

India’s agricultural sector plays a ensuring food security, enhancing rural livelihoods, and promoting environmental sustainability. As the country envisions a developed India (Viksit Bharat) by 2047, sustainable agriculture emerges as a key component of this transformation. This review paper explores the current status, challenges, and potential pathways for sustainable agricultural development in India. It discusses technological advancements, policy frameworks, climate-resilient farming techniques, and socio-economic factors that can drive agricultural sustainability. The paper also highlights the role of digital innovations, precision farming, and community-based approaches in achieving long-term agricultural resilience and productivity. Strengthening financial inclusion, capacity building, and infrastructure is vital for smallholder farmers, alongside policy measures supporting agroforestry, organic farming, and sustainable resource management. Leveraging technology, improving rural infrastructure, and implementing inclusive policies will make Indian agriculture resilient and competitive by 2047. A multi-stakeholder approach, including government, private investment, cooperatives, and research institutions, is essential for a sustainable and self-reliant future.
