Obligate anaerobic bacteria are thought to be significant components of the human microbiome. Additionally, they are significant causative agents of bacteraemia with a high mortality rate and responsible for focal or invasive infections. Bacteroides species are the most important pathogens that causes anaerobic infections. Clinical characteristics of anaerobic bacteraemia is like bacteraemia caused by other pathogens. Due to the longer generation time, it takes time to conclude the diagnosis. Fast, reliable, precise identification of anaerobic bacteria has been made possible by the technical revolution in microbiological diagnostics brought about by the development of matrix-assisted laser desorption-ionization time-of-flight mass spectrometry (MALDI-TOF MS).
