Abstract:

The present study was carried in district Ganderbal with an aim to study the impact of SHGs on women and the role played by these groups in alleviation of poverty. SHG are largest community-based programs in the world. Despite the fact, SHG are meant to be game changers but it takes a lot of time to reap benefits by members. Most of the members that were interviewed during the course of study stated that benefits derived are small and could not rely fully on SHG because of inefficient trainings and dearth of financial assistance from banks at appropriate time. The current study was conducted in three tehsils of Ganderbal viz., Ganderbal, Kangan, and Lar. The SHG had laid positive impact on women in the form of social benefits, Skill improved and benefits derived.
