The present study was conducted with the objective to find out the effects of general and specific combining ability. The study comprised F1 hybrids developed through diallel mating design (excluding reciprocals) with the crosses of 9 diverse lines of sponge gourd. The F1 hybrids and their parents were evaluated for two consecutive years. The observations were recorded on growth and yield attributes. The Parents, Pusa Chikani (P9), NDSG-1 (P1) and NDSG-8 (P8) were found good general combiners for fruit yield along with number of fruit per plant and some other yield attributes during both the years. However, lines NDSG-1 (P1) and Pusa Chikni (P9) were found good general combiners for maturity traits in both the years. Out of 36 crosses the best five significant specific crosses for fruit yield per plant, the crosses P1 x P2, P1 x P8, P3 x P9, P3 x P7, and P7 x P8 were found common over both the years.
