Abstract:

Photosynthesis is mainly depends on photosynthetic activity and green leaf area duration during grain filling stage, but this trait is highly influenced by environmental factors such as temperature, soil type and amount of rainfall. In present study, thirty six durum wheat genotypes were evaluated for morpho-physiological parameters viz. flag leaf area and plant height. Leaf samples collected at the heading stage for the estimation of these parameters. Flag leaf contributes the most photosynthetic assimilates in wheat and it assumes the greatest importance in terms of grain yield while the plant height confers to the plant a better capacity to tolerate the dryness. The genotypes viz. HD 4730, PDW 337, WHD 954 and PBND 1625 were found promising for flag leaf area, specific leaf weight and plant height and may be used in crossing programme in order to improve grain quality along with yield.
