A field trial was conducted at the Vegetable Research Farm, Department of Horticulture, Allahabad Agricultural Institute-Deemed University, and Allahabad, to study the performance of different varieties on growth, yield and quality of Garlic (Allium sativum L.) under agro-climatic conditions of Allahabad. The experiment was laid out in randomized block design comprising of seven varieties (Local check, Agrifound White, IC-35265, G-283, Kaveri, KS-2 and G-4), each replicated three times. The experimental observations were recorded on germination percentage, days taken for germination, plant height (cm), number of leaf sheaths per plant, neck girth (cm), days to first initiation of bulb formation, days to full edible maturity of bulbs, fresh weight of bulb (g), number of cloves per bulb, bulb yield per plot (kg), bulb yield (t ha-1), dry matter (%), total soluble solid (%), and ascorbic acid (mg/100 g of edible portion). Economic feasibility of varieties was also worked out. Best results were recorded on all the parameters in variety KS–2 followed by variety G – 4 and the minimum were recorded with Agrifound White. Best results on quality parameters were also recorded in KS–2. Therefore, variety KS-2 emerged as superior over all other varieties tried in this experiment, in relation to growth, yield attributes and yield, quality, and economic returns of Garlic (Allium sativum L.) under agro-climatic conditions of Allahabad.
