Abstract:

For sustenance in litchi production effect of soil application of paclobutrazol in cv. Bombai was investigated over two years, 2013-14 and 2014-15 during autumn winter months at the Horticultural Research Station, Mondouri, Bidhan Chandra Krishi Viswavidyalaya, Mohanpur, West Bengal, India. Application of paclobutrazol resulted in a better flowering, increased fruit set and yield. Panicle size as well as yield was recorded highest with application of paclobutrazol at 2.5, 5.0 and 7.5 ml/tree. A gradual decrease in fruit set and yield was observed at higher doses of paclobutrazol. A significant improvement in fruit size, fruit weight and pulp weight was observed in paclobutrazol applied trees over control. But the response was neither consistent nor conclusive and significant with regard to doses. The total soluble solids and total sugar content improved with an increase in the doses of paclobutrazol and declined thereafter with further higher doses. Although the time of application of paclobutrazol did not play any significant role but it was noticed that delayed application of paclobutrazol, in general, reduced fruit quality. It appears from the experiment that application of paclobutrazol at 2.5 ml/ tree in the month of October could be suggested for improving flowering, fruit set, yield and quality of litchi cv. Bombai.
