Quantification of Residues of Commercial Disinfectant Products from Sample Surface, Post Application

Abstract:

Quaternary ammonium compounds (QACs) are a class of antimicrobial disinfectants whose use in surface cleaning and disinfection for Pharma manufacturing industries, Healthcare, Institutional, etc. Chemically, their low vapor pressure indicates a proclivity to persist on surfaces, and their presence suggests a level of protection against microorganisms. In some cases post application traces of the used disinfectant product actives are inevitable. There are however, very few standardized analytical methods for disinfectant residue studies quantifying their concentrations post application. Here, we describe Maximum Residue Limits (MRLs) for the disinfectants involved are established by a robust high performance liquid chromatography mass spectrometry (HPLC-MS) method for the residue analysis of QACs and Photometric titration for Biguanide post application on surface is presented and discussed.
