Molecular Detection of Bovine Papilloma Virus in Wart Tissues of Bovine Species

Abstract:

Bovine papillomatosis (BP) is a contagious, chronic proliferative disease characterized by warts or papillomas. Different genotypes of BPV have been implicated in various parts of the world. The majority of animal cutaneous warts were found to be caused by both BPV-1 and BPV-2 types, as well as co-infection or mixed infection of these two genotypes. This study was concentrated on identifying BPV1 and BPV 2 viral types as disease etiologies. The prevalence of the BPV1 genotype was investigated using PCR to target the L1 gene (301bp). The wart tissue was found to be 100% positive for the BPV-1 genotype but negative for the BPV-2 genotype. The BPV 1 genotype was found to have the greatest impact on the young age group of female cattle of the HF cross breed. Histopathology was performed on ten typical wart tissues. Six papillomas and four fibropapillomas were discovered microscopically in tissue sections.
