Investigation was carried out at the experimental field of Department of Vegetable and Spice Crops, Uttar Banga Krishi Viswavidyalaya, Pundibari, Coochbehar, West Bengal with seven lines, four testers and twenty-eight cross combinations derived from line × tester model to study the genetic performance of tomato genotypes. The significant variances due to lines and testers, line vs. tester and parent vs. hybrid indicated the importance of their contribution towards general combining ability (GCA), specific combining ability (SCA) and presence of heterotic expression for important characters respectively. The magnitude of predictability ratio for all the traits studied was very less than unity indicated preponderance of non-additive gene action for the inheritance of all the traits. Among lines Arka Alok, Arka Saurabh, Arka Vikas and Arka Meghali and among testers Berika and Alisa Craig possess good GCA. Arka Saurabh × Alisa Craig, Arka Ashish × Berika and Arka Vikas × Berika crosses identified as best with good SCA. Arka Saurabh × Alisa Craig followed by Arka Alok × Berika, Arka Meghali × Berika and Arka Ahuti × Berika were best identified crosses with heterotic expression for the yield contributing traits which was due to the involvement of the parents having high GCA and crosses with good specific combining ability.
