Abstract:

Treatment of infection caused by Gram negative bacilli is often complicated due to increasing resistance medated by beta lactamases genes.Extended spectrum beta lactamases (ESBL) confer resistance to Ceftazidime, cefotaxime, monobactam and related oxyimino beta lactams.  A total of 500 samples were studied and the detection of ESBL was made by comined disc methods using cefatzidime + clavulanic acid and cefotaxime + clavulanic acid and both the methods were compared in the present study.
